Cooking a Rib Eye Steak in the Oven: How to Cook Steak

Cooking a rib eye steak in the oven makes for a wonderful meal. Learning how to cook steak is a key component to learning how to cook. Prior to cooking you want to take the meat out of the refrigerator, place it under a cover and set it outside for about twenty minutes. Naturally if it is the middle of winter or you are in the middle of summer, just set it on the counter till it comes to room temperature.
Prepare the oven, using the broiler section of the oven. Place a rack at the top so the steak is directly under the top heating element and the rack below the steak has a pan to catch the drippings. Five hundred degrees or to broil, depending, on your oven. Medium rare is one hundred forty five degrees, rare is considered one hundred forty degrees and well done is one hundred seventy degrees.
There are multiple ways to marinate the steak. The only seasonings you really need is some fresh ground pepper and salt on both sides. Place a small amount of oil and rub. Let it sit for a few minutes and place it in the oven. It goes without saying you could marinate the steak in the refrigerator as long as you bring it to room temperature before cooking.
Slide the steak in, cook for about five minutes and keep in mind this can vary per oven so you could check before that if you wish. Set up the resting dish using a top and bottom layer for the steak to keep warm while it is resting. Get the kitchen  thermometer out of its sleeve. Once you flip the steak you are going to slip in the thermometer and let it stay there until the cooking is complete. Just turn the steak once.
To rest place the meat between the sheets of aluminum foil and seal. Allow to rest about ten to fifteen minutes. Once the resting period is over the you can really appreciate cooking steak in the oven. This is a good basic description of how to cook steak.
